The Village Light

Challenge

Telling a Community’s Story in Print

The Village Light is a community publication created to preserve moments, voices, and shared experiences within the Portola Valley Jewish community. More than a magazine, it functions as a record of belonging — capturing family stories, milestones, traditions, and everyday life in a format meant to be held, revisited, and kept. Brochure Maven approached the project with a strong editorial mindset, shaping a clear narrative flow across features, interviews, and visual spreads. Careful attention was given to pacing, hierarchy, and readability, allowing long-form content to feel inviting rather than overwhelming. The result is a publication that feels personal, cohesive, and quietly intentional.

This project highlights Brochure Maven’s strength in print-led storytelling — balancing structure with warmth, and clarity with emotion. Through disciplined layout systems, restrained typography, and thoughtful image placement, the publication supports the stories it carries rather than competing with them. The Village Light demonstrates how print, when done well, can deepen connection and create a lasting sense of place.
